Crash

Crash had to be one of the most heart fulled movies I have ever seen.  It was such an amazing movie that you can learn about from.  They had basically every race in the movie and how they really deal with their lives and the racism around them. My favorite character was Michael Pena, who played Daniel.  He had to put up with Sandra Bullock's racist comments that were said right in front of him.  But he's is not your stereotypical Mexican. He is something more.  He is trying to make a living for his family and protect his daughter from all the violence that takes place in LA. He is such a good father to his daughter and the "invisible cloak" seems to work when the shop owner shoots his gun.  I'm still shocked by the whole movie as a whole because I really enjoyed it.  There were so many heart stopping moments, but then you were able to be relieved once they were over and nobody was hurt.  That is except when the cop shoots the captain's baby brother.  Thomas had some what redeemed himself when he stood up for Mr. Howard, but that completely went away when he  used his racist instincts and shot the boy because he thought the boy was getting out a gun.  That was by far the saddest part of this movie. But overall this was an amazing movie and I am very happy we got to watch it.

Social Class

This week I learned a lot of new things about social class.  A lot of these things I have never really thought about because they come as a second nature to me.  The projects really opened my eyes on how people live in our country.  My group had the upper class, so we had no stress picking out our lifestyle for our family of five.  It's amazing how we did not have to worry about any money or life happens cards because we had so much money.  So we bought a beautiful house in Lake Forest, which would be anyone's dream house.  We also made sure our kids had good clothes, education, food, and activities going on.  On the other hand, the lower class had some stress creating a lifestyle for their family.  They got the worst of the life happens cards and could not even give their child a birthday party, which is something we have all taken granted for.  It makes me sad to think that there are plenty of people living out there pay check to pay check.  And that there is a gap between the richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor, and to me it's really sad to think about.  I learned a ton also from the video we have been watching in class.  I still can not get over how "white wonder bread" goes along with social class.  Poor people want cheap bread and do not care about the health benefits, so they won't buy the 9-grain bread or anything that seems remotely healthy.  And then you have Thomas from the WASPS group who basically thinks he is the S***.   He looks down upon everyone else, but that is the social class he knows- upper class.  I was thinking about it, and it must be hard to legitimately be a social class climber.  Imagine going from lower-middle class to upper class.  That has got to be a hard transition, you need to learn so many little things you have never thought about.  Such as how close you can stand to people or how to dress or what kind of food to eat.  It's CRAZY!
